David Reiland

Appointed as the 7th artistic director of the Korean National Symphony Orchestra from 2022, David Reiland reveals his strong ambitions for KNSO, which strives to expand internationally beyond S. Korea. Reiland, born in Belgium, having studied music in Brussels, Paris, and Salzburg and worked as a globally based conductor overseas. In other words, he is a typical “cosmopolitan” musician who is in demand by the current classical music realm. Reiland, who is familiar with various cultural arts and presents new repertoires with a broader perspective, can be said to be the best conductor for KNSO, which strives to actively respond to the rapidly changing art environment of the 2020s.
David Reiland is one of the most distinguished conductors on the European stage and has been working with the world’s most preeminent orchestras. He was anointed knighthood (chevalier) in the National Order of the Legion of Honour in 2023 from the French government.

    Eu Lee Nam

    • Eu-Lee Nam is a South Korean conductor and pianist.
    • She is the winner of the conducting prize at Internationale Sommerakademie Radolfzell 2021 voted by musicians of the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie. Recently she was a finalist of La Maestra Competition 2024 in Paris and with recognition she will be supported in La Maestra Academy program 2024-26 by the Philharmonie de Paris and the Paris Mozart Orchestra. She will work as the assistant conductor of Orchestre de Paris under Esa-Pekka Salonen. September 2024 she conducts the Romanian Youth Orchestra at the George Enescu Festival under the direction of Cristian Macelaru.
    • She recently conducted the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est, the Paris Mozart Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cottbus State Orchestra, the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Symphonic Orchestra, the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, Stattsorchester Gärtnerplatz, the Southwest German Philharmonic, the Philharmonie Bad Reichenhall, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra and Hungarian State Orchestra Szeged. In April 2022 she conducted the last performance of the Magic Flute Production of Theaterakademie Everding in Munich.  She has recently worked as guest Répétiteur at Staatstheater Kassel. Currently she is the music director and chief conductor of Münchner Mandolinen-Zirkel.
    • She took part in several masterclasses with several prominent conductors and professors, including with Jaap van Zweden at the conducting masterclass of Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, with David Reiland at the "Gabriel Pierné International Conducting Masterclasses", with Prof. Johannes Schläfli and Prof. Nicolas Pasquet at the “Weimar Meisterkurs”, with Prof. Ulrich Windfuhr at the international Mendelssohn Festival in Hamburg, with Prof. Johannes Schläfli at the International Summer Academy Radolfzell, as well as with Sir Donald Runnicles and Prof. Sigmund Thorp.
    • She studied orchestral conducting for a bachelor's degree 2017-2021 in Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns-Eisler” with Prof. Christian Ehwald and Prof. Alexander Vitlin. 2021-2024 she studied her master for orchestra conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Prof. Marcus Bosch and Prof. Georg Fritzsch.
  • Jacobus de Jager

    Jacobus de Jager

    • South African-born conductor Jacobus de Jager was the winner of the 5th South African Conductors’ Competition and one of the eight semi-finalists of the 2023 Herbert von Karajan Young Conductor’s Award.
    • Jacobus is currently in the second year of his master’s in conducting with Martyn Brabbins and Michael Bawtree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, generously supported by the Leverhulme Trust. As part of his studies and during various other opportunities, he has conducted the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Hebrides Ensemble, Red Note Ensemble, Athens Philharmonia, Silesian Philharmonic, RCS Symphony, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik, and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. In South Africa, Jacobus was the resident conductor of the Stellenbosch University Symphony Orchestra in 2021 and 2022 and has guest conducted orchestras such as the Cape Town Philharmonic, Mzansi Philharmonic, Free State Symphony, Eastern Cape Philharmonic, and the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra. He was also a conductor at the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival where he world premiered two South African works.
    • Most recently he assisted Martyn Brabbins on his two 2024 BBC Proms concerts with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also acted as assistant to Vassily Sinaisky, Catherine Larsen-Maguire, Arjan Tien, and Michael Seal among others.
    • Jacobus has received masterclasses from conductors including Marin Alsop, Paavo Järvi, Neeme Järvi, Kristjan Järvi, John Wilson, Antony Hermus, Sian Edwards, Leonid Grin, Ryan Bancroft, James Lowe, Michalis Economou, Stuart Stratford, Arjan Tien, and Victor Yampolsky. His previous conducting teachers include Corvin Matei and Daniel Boico in South Africa, and Alexander Polishchuk in St Petersburg.
    • In addition to his conducting studies, Jacobus holds a Master of Music (Cum Laude) in piano performance from the University of Stellenbosch, having studied with Nina Schumann and Luis Magalhães.
  • Maximilian Otto

    Maximilian Otto

    • Maximilian Otto, born in 1998, has been second Kapellmeister at the Theater Chemnitz – a renowned A-house with the Robert Schumann Philharmonic – since the 2023/24 season and has already conducted the revivals of Fledermaus, Offenbach’s Orpheus in der Unterwelt, My fair Lady, Carabet and Martinů's Die Drei Wünsche. In the 2024/25 season he will conduct the premiers of Frid’s Diary of Anne Frank, Charpentier’s Louise, as well as the revivals of Rigoletto, Carmen, Hänsel und Gretel, La bohème.
    • Maximilian completed a bachelor's degree in orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with Prof. Ekkehard Klemm and a master's degree at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar with Prof. Nicolás Pasquet and Prof. Ekhart Wycik.
    • He is a prizewinner of the 11th MDR conducting competition, in which he conducted his own world premiere with the MDR Symphony Orchestra in the prizewinners' concert. He has also been a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation since 2019. He attended master classes with Jean-Philippe Wurtz, Omer-Meir Wellber, Johannes Pell, Ole Kristian Ruud and Christian Thielemann, who invited him to a sponsorship rehearsal designed as a master class at the Salzburg Festival in 2022, in which he conducted the Staatskapelle Dresden in the big festival hall. He has also worked with orchestras such as the Sinfonietta Dresden, the Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, the Jena Philharmonic, the Elbland Philharmonie Sachsen, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic, the Erzgebirgische Philharmonie Aue, the Sinfonia Rotterdam, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic and the Kodály Filharmónia Debrecen. He has already worked as a musical assistant and/or répétiteur for certain productions at the German National Theatre Weimar (Strauss' Ariadne), at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin (children's opera production of Wagner's Lohengrin), at the Gaechinger Cantorey (Haydn's Creation) and at the Landesbühnen Sachsen (Marschner's Vampyr).
  • Michal Oren

    Michal Oren

    • Michal Oren is an award-winning conductor and a clarinettist from Tel-Aviv, Israel. Recently she was awarded the Female Conductor Trainee position at Opera North in Leeds, UK (2024-2025). From September 2024, she will be studying for her Professional Diploma in conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
    • Previously, she graduated from her master’s studies in orchestral conducting at the Royal College of Music in London as a Victor and Lilian Hochhauser Scholar. She was awarded distinction for her two Bachelors of Music in orchestral conducting and clarinet performance from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at the Tel Aviv University.
    • Michal won the 1 st prize in the 4 th International Academy and Competition of Orchestra Conducting in Estoril, Portugal (2023) and the 2nd prize of the 3rd International Orchestral Conducting Competition “Universidad de Almeria”, Spain (2023).
    • In 2024, Michal joined the Women Conductors’ Programme of the Royal Philharmonic Society with the Royal Northern Sinfonia. She is the current Residence Music Scholar of the Robert Anderson Trust (2022-2025), and since 2015, scholar of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (with the highest distinction for 2024-2026).
    • In June 2024, she was invited by maestro Martyn Brabbins to share a concert with him and the London-based Salomon Orchestra, and participated in his masterclass with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Glasgow. Michal is also the founder and musical curator of the “Museum Orchestra” of the Petach-Tikva Museum of Art in Israel.
  • Nickolai Podvin

    Nickolai Podvin

    • Nickolai Podvin is a dedicated and creative Romani orchestral conductor who has amassed a wealth of experience leading musicians across a wide range of age groups and ensembles around the world. His primary objective is to bring people together by providing audience members with riveting and captivating musical experiences. What sets Podvin apart is not only his confidence as a leader but also his acute awareness of musical nuances, including pitch, tone, and harmony.
    • After obtaining his masters in orchestral conducting at Illinois State University, fueled by his passion for orchestral music, Podvin sought further education at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London. During his time there, he organized two full symphony concerts, one of which featured a historic student performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This accomplishment not only highlights Podvin's commitment to showcasing the works of great composers but also provides invaluable opportunities for aspiring musicians.
    • Podvin's thirst for knowledge and growth led him to pursue an Artist Diploma in Orchestral Conducting. Currently, he is continuing his professional development under the guidance of two esteemed mentors: Christopher Franklin from the Minnesota Opera and William Eddins, a renowned conductor who has led orchestras such as the Minnesota Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
    • In addition to his role as a conductor, Podvin is deeply committed to sharing his love for music with others. He actively participates in educational initiatives, mentoring young musicians, and fostering a love for orchestral music in the next generation. By doing so, he ensures that his passion for music continues to thrive and inspire others.

  • Oren Gross Thaler

    Oren Gross Thaler

    • Oren Gross-Thaler was born in 1997 in Tel Aviv, Israel. At the age of ten, he started to study classical saxophones under the guidance of Gan Lev and began his conducting studies with George Pehlivanian at the age of fifteen.
    • At the age of seventeen, he became a student and an assistant of the Israeli conductor and composer Noam Sheriff. In addition, he studied Music and Philosophy at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel-Aviv University. He also specialized in Musical Theory under the guidance of Prof. Yitzhak Sadai.
    • In 2017 as he was only twenty, he was selected as a fellow conductor at the Aspen Music Festival, where he received advanced training from Robert Spano and other conductors.
    • In 2018 Oren Gross-Thaler was chosen by Noam Sheriff to conduct the world premiere of his musical piece ‘Lenny’, which was written in honor of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birth centennial. The concert was performed by the Regensburg Philharmonic Orchestra among other compositions of Bernstein in a subscriber's concert. After the success of the concert, Gross-Thaler was chosen by Bernard Haitink to participate in his conducting masterclass at the Lucerne Festival.
    • In 2022 he completed the Advanced Professional Training for Conductors at the University of the Arts Berlin. He also participated in the Tanglewood Music Festival Conducting Seminar.
    • During his career, Oren Gross-Thaler conducted the Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Regensburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra, Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva, Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Raanana Symphonette and others.
    • In addition, Gross-Thaler is the Music Director of the ‘Bnei HaKibbutzim’ Orchestra, a youth orchestra in Israel, built by the Kibbutz community.
  • Seonggeun Kim

    Seonggeun Kim

    • Daniel Seonggeun Kim is a promising young conductor based in Germany with significant experience conducting a wide range of repertoire, including symphonic works, opera, and contemporary music.
    • Daniel Kim commenced his Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar in April 2018, graduating with honors in spring 2022. He then proceeded to complete his graduate program at the same institution in 2024 and is currently pursuing his Konzertexamen.
    • In Weimar, Daniel Kim had the privilege of studying with Nicolás Pasquet and Ekhart Wycik. Additionally, he received lessons from renowned conductors such as Michael Sanderling, Christian Ehwald, Mark Heron, and Gunter Kahlert.
    • Daniel Kim has extensive experience working with a number of professional orchestras, including the MDR-Sinfonieorchester, Jenaer Philharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, and Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra. His recent performances include conducting the MDR-Sinfonieorchester in Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite (1919) at the Prizewinners' concert, serving as co-conductor for the Musical Director Dennis Russel Davis in Charles Ives' Symphony No. 4, and making his debut with the Leipziger Universtadsorchester in Gewandhaus.
    • In the field of theatrical works, Daniel Kim assisted General Music Director Markus Frank in Alexander Zemlinsky's opera Der König Kandaules at the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau. In the 23/24 season, Daniel served as assistant conductor to Principal Conductor Domink Beykirch in the new production of "Capuleti e i Montecchi" at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar.
    • Daniel Seonggeun Kim was the prizewinner of the 2024 Conducting Competition of the Music Universities in Middle Germany. He has served as Music Director of the Collegium Musicum Weimar (2019-2023), as a guest conductor of the Akademisches Orchester Erfurt, and is currently the Music Director of Leipziger Universitätsorchester. Daniel has also been a fellow of the Forum Dirigieren program since 2023, which has provided him with numerous masterclasses and concert opportunities. 
  • Sukjong Kim

    Sukjong Kim

    • After completing a bachelor of art degree in orchestra conducting (under Chi-Yong Chung) in Korea National University of Arts, Conducting Department, Sukjong Kim had pursued a bachelor’s degree in conducting (under Ulrich Windfuhr) at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg since 2019 and has been pursuing a master’s degree since 2023. In the same year 2023, she studied under Maestro Marin Alsop through the student exchange program at Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
    • This year, she was invited by Maestro Daniele Gatti to participate in the 2024 Chigiana Academy, where she won the Special Award for Female Conductors. In addition, she was selected as one of the six finalists at the world-renowned 11th Fitelberg International Conducting Competition and went into the semi-finals at JM Bucharest International Conducting Competition in 2021.
    • And, she was also selected as a member of ‘Conductor Forum’, the German Music Association under Ministry of Culture in Germany, to conduct Nürnberg Symphoniker, Hofer Symphoniker, Symphoniker Hamburg, Bergisch Symphoniker, Theater Lüneburg, Philharmonisches Orchester Giessen and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
    • She was also interested in the modern music field, so she participated as an assistant to maestro Rudiger Bohn in the Autumn International Contemporary Music Festival held in Warsaw, Poland in 2022, and she conducted the performance where Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Franz Liszt Academy of Music and University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna collaborated for the Ligeti 100th Anniversary in Budapest, Hungary.
    • She was invited by Maestro Simone Young to participate in the Critical Orchestra Master Class held in Berlin, where she was selected as a finalist by the orchestra members. In addition, she participated in Master Class by Maestro Johannes Schlaefli to conduct Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg in Austria, and she has studied under prominent conductors including Marin Alsop, Christian Ehwald, Jonathan Darlington, Zygmunt Thorpe, Marcello Bufalini, Florian Ludwig, etc.
    • Before studying abroad in Germany, she was selected as a new conductor by the Korea Conductors Association in 2016 and 2017 consecutively to make her debut with Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra and since then, she has conducted Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, Chuncheon Philharmonic Orchestra and Jeju Philharmonic Orchestra including the 1st Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra Next Generation Concert.
